Wisconsin Snowmobile Trails Map

Last Updated: 1/17/08 - There was a slight problem with the complete Garmin Mapsource map. If you downloaded it between 1/14 and 1/17/08, download it again. You have to uninstall the old one before installing the new one.

Please note there's a re-route in Sawyer County that isn't shown on the map. You can download a track showing the new re-routed trail here.

My maps, data exchange, guide and forum are free and will continue to be free, so use them and enjoy. However, making and maintaining the maps, helping people install them, and keeping this website running takes a large amount of time and costs some money, so if you find this site to be useful, please consider making a donation.

Thanks to the kind folks who have uploaded data, we now have a pretty extensive Wisconsin GPS snowmobile trail map! The bulk of the map is user contributed, plus there's some data from the WI DNR. The user contributed data is shown as the thickest (3 pt) lines. The medium thickness lines are what I believe to be state funded snowmobile trails on DNR land, so those trails should be pretty reliable. However, the data is old and wasn't very accurate to begin with, so use caution. The thinnest lines are other trails that may or may not be open for snowmobile use. USE THIS MAP AT YOUR OWN RISK, and make sure you always carry a reliable paper map. Again, the trails on this map are not guaranteed to be rideable.

Big thanks to Scott Hostetler, MKS, Kevin Hafner for contributing data.

Two versions of each version are available. The complete version has lakes, rivers, roads (including many that aren't on Garmin's commercial maps), and cities in addition to the trails, and trails only version is just trails and points of interest. The trails only Garmin version is transparent and can be put on top of other Garmin maps, such as USA Topo or City Select. The Magellan and Lowrance trails only versions cannot do this.

Note: Please do not contact Garmin, Lowrance, or Magellan if you have problems with these maps. Look around on this site for a solution to your problem, post in the forum, or contact me. These are unofficial maps and have nothing to do with Garmin, Lowrance, or Magellan.

You can download the map in two ways: an installer for Mapsource, and the individual map sections (.img files). If you don't have Garmin's Mapsource software, you'll need to download the individual sections and transfer them to your GPS using SendMap or MapUpload (see below).

As much as I'd like to cover more trails, I can only ride so many miles each Winter, so to make this map more complete, I need your help. If this map is useful to you, then it means you have a GPS, and if you have a GPS, then you too can collect tracklogs! Just set it to record a tracklog (one track point every 2 or 3 seconds is good) and bring it along each time you ride - it's as simple as that. If you can, mark shelters, hazzards, gas stations, etc. When you get back, transfer your data to your computer (via Mapsource or some other method), and upload it here. All useful data will be added to the next version of the map. Spread the word!
