New York Snowmobile Trails Map

Last Updated: 2/16/07

The new version of the map includes all of the statewide trails, and the files are about half the size of my previous map, so you won't use as much map memory! The Lowrance and Magellan versions will be up in a few days.

My maps, data exchange, guide and forum are free and will continue to be free, so use them and enjoy. However, making and maintaining the maps, helping people install them, and keeping this website running takes a large amount of time and costs some money, so if you find this site to be useful, please consider making a donation.

This is a New York statewide snowmobile trail map, comprised mostly of data from The State of New York, and also tracklogs contributed by Dan Harris, Chull13, and Nicholas Longo. The NY State data is the most current version, and the map also has many smaller trails and lots of points of interest such as gas stations, lodging, shelters, intersections, etc., making it the most complete map if its kind.

Below are versions for Garmin, Magellan, and Lowrance GPSrs. Two versions for each brand are available. One has lakes, rivers, and roads in addition to the trails, and the other is a map of just the trails. The trails only Garmin version is transparent and can be put on top of other Garmin maps, such as USA Topo. The Garmin installer will allow you to choose a color for the trails and should work with all newer Garmin mapping units. If you have an older unit, or don't want the colors, that can be selected during installation. The Magellan and Lowrance trails only versions are not transparent, but are included for those who don't want the clutter of the lakes an roads, or those without much map memory.

Note: Please do not contact Garmin, Lowrance, or Magellan if you have problems with these maps. Look around on this site for a solution to your problem, post in the forum, or contact me. These are unofficial maps and have nothing to do with Garmin, Lowrance, or Magellan.

You can download the map in two ways: an installer for Mapsource, and the individual map sections (.img files). If you don't have Garmin's Mapsource software, you'll need to download the individual sections and transfer them to your GPS using SendMap or MapUpload (see below).

Magellan Version

As much as I'd like to cover more trails, I can only ride so many miles each Winter, so to make this map more complete, I need your help. If this map is useful to you, then it means you have a GPS, and if you have a GPS, then you too can collect tracklogs! Just set it to record a tracklog (one track point every 2 or 3 seconds is good) and bring it along each time you ride - it's as simple as that. If you can, mark shelters, hazzards, gas stations, etc. When you get back, transfer your data to your computer (via Mapsource or some other method), and upload it here. All useful data will be added to the next version of the map. Spread the word!
