Last Updated: 1/6/08 The new version of the map includes more coverage, especially in NE MN, more points of interest, and a second map showing only the MN Corridor trail system, making this the most complete MN map available. The map also contains many more logging and forest roads than Garmin's Topo or City Navigator map. It's very useful for off-trail exploration.
My maps, data exchange, guide and forum are free and will continue to be free, so use them and enjoy. However, making and maintaining the maps, helping people install them, and keeping this website running takes a large amount of time and costs some money, so if you find this site to be useful, please consider making a donation.
The map covers most, if not all, of the major trails across the entire state, plus some smaller ones that either I've collected or people have been kind enough to send me data for. There are quite a few new trails on this map as well as markings for many shelters and businesses. These businesses include gas stations, restaurants, resorts and motels, and parts/service shops. If you stop in, please let them know how you found them.
Much of the trail data on this map is courtesy of the MN DNR. Two versions of each version are available. The complete version has lakes, rivers, roads (including many that aren't on Garmin's commercial maps), and cities in addition to the trails, and trails only version is just trails and points of interest. The trails only Garmin version is transparent and can be put on top of other Garmin maps, such as USA Topo or City Select. The Magellan and Lowrance trails only versions cannot do this.
Note: Please do not contact Garmin, Lowrance, or Magellan if you have problems with these maps. Look around on this site for a solution to your problem, post in the forum, or contact me. These are unofficial maps and have nothing to do with Garmin, Lowrance, or Magellan.
As much as I'd like to cover more trails, I can only ride so many miles each Winter, so to make this map more complete, I need your help. If this map is useful to you, then it means you have a GPS, and if you have a GPS, then you too can collect tracklogs! Just set it to record a tracklog (one track point every 2 or 3 seconds is good) and bring it along each time you ride - it's as simple as that. If you can, mark shelters, hazzards, gas stations, etc. When you get back, transfer your data to your computer (via Mapsource or some other method), and upload it here. All useful data will be added to the next version of the map. Spread the word! If you'd like to be e-mailed when this map is updated, enter your e-mail address: |
