Loading the gpssledmap into your Magellan eXplorist:
Download the zip file to any spot on your computer.
Unzip the *.imi file and make sure you know where it was saved.
You have two options from here:
1. use the Magellan Conversion Manager to upload the map to your GPS.
2. upload the file directly to your SD or xD memory card, placing the *.imi file in the "Detail" folder.
Once the file is loaded into the GPS or onto the memory card. Insert it into the GPS unit and reboot. Then you just need to go to your menu screen on the GPS and go to "Preferences" - "Active Setup" - and then select the filename for the gpssledmap to be used as the "Detail Map". You should then be able to zoom in to the 1.60 mile zoom to see the map. This map is not transparent and will cover up your basemap from the 1.60 mile zoom into 100ft.
For the Meridian series, you can copy the .img file over to your SD card using a card reader.
Thanks to Karl Talonen for the above instructions.
Uploading to a Crossover:
This is how I did it.
You will need SD card and SD card reader.I got a multislot at Wal-Mart for 19.00 and 1 meg card for the same.
1.)Download maps from here onto your computer.
2.) Unzip maps and save.
3.) Place SD card in reader, plug into USB port. the computer should show new hardwear found.
4.) click on the map and copy the map you wish to upload into your GPS.
5.) Go start then to "my computer" on your screen. Click on Drive that has SD card. (Mine has 4 slots in the reader so 4 drives show up.)
6.) "Paste" copied map on the drive that is the SD card.
7.) Turn on your GPS after it boots and is ready to go change to the outdoor screen. when it comes up go to the bottom right arrow and go to the next screen, then go to options.
8.) In options scrool down to Import data. when screen changes insert SD card. It should tell you do not remove card while reading. The map should load. Leave SD Card in GPS
9.) Exit put and go back to Map screen.
The map should be onyour screen now.
I have done this both ways with the map and just the trails and it worked fine.
Thanks to Mike Hurst for the Crossover instructions.
If your Magellan GPSr does not use an SD card, I'd recommend not trying this. There are reports of corrupt maps permanently locking up GPSrs when loaded into internal memory.
